Oversight fees may affect recruitment of nurse practitioners

New Mexico began recruiting nurse practitioners last year using the fact that it did not have a physician oversight requirement or the big fees that often accompany it. While New Mexico's recruitment success is not yet known, fees may be a big motivator for advance practice registered nurses. Susan Lynch, CEO of the Florida Association of Nurse Practitioners, says payments to physicians for oversight vary by region, and the price can be high.
