74% of Chicago schools improve on state tests

Chicago schools posted solid gains this year on state tests, particularly for third- and fifth-graders in math and writing. At one elementary school, third-graders' passing scores soared from 19% to 63% in reading and 18% to 77% in math, results that were duplicated even after students took retests following concerns students may have initially cheated.
