Inflation-protected TIPS to become bigger part of U.S. debt sales

The sale of Treasury Inflation-Protected Securities, or TIPS, is likely to be substantially expanded as the U.S. Treasury tries to sell more debt to cover the exploding U.S. budget deficit. China expressed interest in buying more TIPS during recent talks in Washington. TIPS are popular among investors who anticipate increasing inflation because they pay a fixed amount above the consumer-price index.
