Napolitano speaks out on flu, immigration and keeping your shoes on

In a wide-ranging interview with USA TODAY, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano warns "we will always live in a terrorist threat environment" that requires "a state of preparation and readiness -- not a state of fear." On the subject of airport screening, Napolitano says technology may one day allow passengers to keep their shoes on and carry liquids on their flights. But in the meantime, she urges fliers to remember the reason for the inconvenience: "People take off their shoes because there was a shoe bomber and because there's intel about others who would use materials conveyed in shoes to get on an aircraft to do damage," she says.
