$1 billion in funding goes to Illinois clean-coal project

An Illinois project designed to reduce emissions at coal-fired power plants has received a federal grant of $1 billion. With the funds, FutureGen Alliance and a coalition of other organizations will retrofit a defunct coal-fired plant in Meredosia, Ill., allowing it to transport and store more than 1 million tons of carbon dioxide annually.
