Scientists explore ways to develop healthier salt alternatives

Researchers are working on finding healthier alternatives to salt that provide the same salty taste but contain less sodium, which has been linked to a number of health problems, such as strokes and heart attacks. Some of the strategies under development include wrapping salt particles in a special coating so their flavor is released more gradually and using coolants to enhance the salty taste found in sodium.
