Unemployment-benefits claims are highest since April

Jobless-benefit claims increased to 479,000 last week, an increase of 19,000 and the highest level since April, the Labor Department reports. In the past three weeks, claims have increased twice. Economists worry that the recovery is slowing as cautious Americans cut back on spending amid job concerns.
