17 tomato growers file suit over 2008 losses

Tomato growers in Florida, Georgia and South Carolina have filed a lawsuit against the federal government seeking about $40 million in compensation for losses suffered after their fruit was erroneously linked to a salmonella outbreak that was later tied to peppers from Mexico. The 17 growers are seeking individual compensation and may seek class-action status.
