Celiac disease patients are at greater risk of lymphoma

The annual incidence of lymphoma among people with celiac disease was almost three times greater than the general population's rate, according to a study in the journal Annals of Internal Medicine. Researchers looked at more than 7,600 patients with celiac disease and found that the annual risk for those whose follow-up biopsies indicated intestinal damage was about 102 lymphoma cases among 100,000 people, compared with 31.5 among 100,000 for patients with healed intestines.
