CMS to fine 2,225 hospitals for readmission rates

CMS will reduce payments to 2,225 hospitals for a combined $227 million due to high readmission rates. Four out of five hospitals in 10 states and the District of Columbia face fines. Maryland, which has a federal waiver allowing a different reimbursement system, is the only state in which no hospital will be fined.
