Finances need to be discussed when confronted by serious illness

Letting finances slide in the event of a grave or fatal illness is a mistake, financial advisers and planners say. In the case of a terminal illness, the individual should consider investing in a deferred variable annuity that includes a death benefit, says Mark Cortazzo, a senior partner and certified financial planner with financial-advisory firm Macro Consulting Group.
