IDC: Absence of new iPad keeps lid on tablet shipments

Tablet shipments experienced a nearly 10% sequential drop in the second quarter as consumer demand for the devices stabilized in the absence of a new version of the iPad, IDC reported. Manufacturers shipped 45.1 million tablets during the quarter, according to the analyst firm, which expects sales to remain steady until the fourth quarter, when new products and holiday demand are expected to drive an uptick.
