NASA engineer: Dedication, daring indispensable for challenging tasks

Having people who are dedicated and take ownership of the task at hand is essential to achieving success when taking on difficult or next-to-impossible tasks such as landing a rover on Mars, advised Brian Muirhead, chief engineer of NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab. Speaking at the Black Hat security conference in Las Vegas, Muirhead said it's important to be willing to take chances but also noted there's no substitute for testing, especially "when you're only one fault away from failure."
