Partnerships are the new norm for universities and industry

Multiple U.S. universities have set up partnerships with chemical giants during the past five years as relations warm between the two sectors. "[T]he industry-academic hookups are responsible for new courses in areas such as polymer engineering and green chemistry," writes Rick Mullin. Participants say the partnerships "have reinvigorated basic chemistry and chemical engineering departments and are improving the skills of scientists entering the workforce," he writes.
