Researchers use light to manipulate polymers

Researchers testing a class of polymers that is based on poly(azocalix[4]arene) have found they can change the polymers' solubility by writing on them with a light. This also triggers a switch between the polymers' isomers. While writing with light onto solid polymers is not new, writing onto a dispersion of a polymer is "a new chemistry," said Vladimir Aseyev of the University of Helsinki.
