Solazyme's serendipitous foray into non-biofuel products

While trying to develop a renewable biofuel from algae, Solazyme co-founders Jonathan Wolfson and Harrison Dillon identified other opportunities in cosmetics and food. Their biofuels have already helped power a Boeing 737 and a U.S. Navy frigate, but Solazyme's other algae-derived offerings include anti-aging products, butter replacements and ingredients for personal hygiene items.
