Tenn. utility demonstrates cost saving benefits of the smart grid

Investment in the smart grid paid off for Tennessee energy provider EPB Chattanooga, which recently disclosed it saved $1.4 million last year by reducing the duration of outages during a destructive summer storm. The utility attributed the increased resilience of its network to the installation of 1,200 S&C IntelliRupter automated switches, which among other things enabled thousands of customers to have their power remotely restored.
