UK farmers ask grocers to relax produce beauty rules

UK supermarkets that typically seek out the prettiest apples, onions and carrots may have to dial down the quest for perfect produce this year, growers say. A cold start to the season means smaller crops of less-attractive fruits and vegetables; Tesco, Waitrose and Sainsbury have all said they plan to accept less-than-flawless fresh produce to avoid waste.
