Hip fracture tied to greater mortality risk in elderly

A study published in JAMA Internal Medicine found that hip fracture was associated with a significantly higher mortality risk among nursing home residents. The risk of dying following hip fracture was higher among patients ages 90 and older, those with brain function impairments, and those who did not undergo surgery for the injury.
