Report: Bakken crude doesn't pose greater risk than similar liquids

A North Dakota Petroleum Council report released Aug. 4 found that crude oil from the Bakken Shale is no more hazardous than other light, sweet crudes in rail transportation, supporting prior similar findings by the American Fuel and Petrochemical Manufacturers. The report suggests safety practices and recommends the crude be classified under the most volatile packing group for hazardous materials.
