Store openings slow down as foot traffic declines

Store traffic continues to decline in the U.S. and is reducing the number of store openings and locations as more users turn to PCs for purchases. In-store visits fell 7% in June and 5% in July, according to ShopperTrak. The trend is hurting major brands, pushing Sears to close 12% of stores over three years and Staples to say that stores must "earn the right" to stay in business.
