A micro-textured surface uses magnetic fields to control the movement of fluids across it. The development by researchers from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Saudi Arabia may find uses in self-cleaning solar panels or biomedical devices, according to this article. "This work cleverly combines low-hysteresis droplet movement with low-magnetic-field-driven droplet propulsion to achieve impressive capabilities," said Neelesh Patankar, a mechanical engineering professor at Northwestern University.
