Fewer than 10% of special ed students pursue summer services

According to the New York City Department of Education, only 1,200 students out of the 14,500 identified as having missed at least three months of services took advantage of summer makeup sessions. While the Department said it was pleased with the turnout, public advocate Betsy Gotbaum criticized officials for waiting too long to notify parents about the sessions.
