Managing capital projects: Lessons from Asia

The best Asian companies are able to build industrial projects cheaper and quicker than is typical for the West. About half the savings are due to differences in regulation, taxation and the like, but McKinsey researchers found innovative practices at work in Asia that defy conventional Western wisdom. These include overinvesting in equipment and labor, outsourcing less, and eliminating excessive engineering.
