During recession, summer provides no respite

Summer usually gives small-business owners a break because business slows down. But entrepreneurs who usually would spend this time taking a vacation are devoting more energy to customers and budgets and are hard-pressed to take a break because of the havoc created by the recession. "We've got an all-hands-on-deck mentality," says Michael Whitlow of CRT/Tanaka, a Virginia public-relations firm.
