Economist urges Maine contractors to look outside the state

Maine has awarded 100% of the stimulus funds it has received to construction projects, which is more than many other states. Nevertheless, high unemployment in the state's construction industry persists, said Associated General Contractors Economist Ken Simonson. Maine has shed 19% of its construction jobs from its peak in April 2006. Simonson urged Maine contractors to consider projects out of state as well as stimulus projects that have not been awarded yet.
