Environmental-studies professor champions weeds for food

Nancy Gift, an assistant professor of environmental studies at Chatham University in Pittsburgh, lets the weeds in her garden grow tall. Instead of buying leaf lettuce from the grocery store, Gift picks wood sorrel and plantain leaves for use in salads. "I think the culinary interest in weeds is increasing because the economy has gone south," Gift said.
