Federal funds to pay for changes in assessment tests

As part of the $4.35 billion to be awarded through the Race to the Top education fund, Secretary of Education Arne Duncan recently said $350 million will be set aside to revamp the federally mandated multiple-choice assessment tests of No Child Left Behind. The goal should be to create measures for accountability that will instruct students, inform teachers and accurately assess students' comprehension of key topics, a testing expert said.
