Parents today allow more self-expression, less public freedom

A historical analysis of parenting found children today have more freedom at home but less in public. Researchers who reviewed 300 advice columns from 1929 to 2006 said child rearing has done a 180-degree turn from a century ago. More emphasis now is placed on self-expression at home, as parents attempt to keep children safe outdoors and in public areas.
