Canadian carriers look to U.S., overseas markets

Air Canada and its largest competitor, WestJet Airlines, are pinning their growth plans on expansion in the U.S. and other international markets. With slow growth in Canada's "mature" domestic market, Air Canada has targeted 95% of its capacity increases this year to international routes, especially in the U.S. and Asia. At WestJet, U.S. capacity rose 34% in the second quarter, while domestic capacity remained flat.
