Lawmakers query Web companies about user data

Reps. Ed Markey, D-Mass., and Joe Barton, R-Texas, have issued letters to 15 Web companies, including AOL, Yahoo! and MSN, to express concern about online advertising's effect on consumer privacy. The lawmakers singled out targeted marketing practices that rely on Web tracking and asked companies to reveal how the information was being used as well as the revenues it generates.
