Sunrise investigation prompts calls for zoning reform

Toronto fire officials say that their investigation into the 2008 Sunrise Propane blast has led to new standards that should ensure propane facilities operate safely. Still, residents are pushing for bylaws and zoning regulations to ensure that industrial propane sites are kept nearly 1,000 feet or further from residential areas. Propane-industry officials said that new rules are unnecessary, because the Sunrise explosion was caused by illegal actions and didn't reflect the activities of most propane facilities.
