Common core requires cross-curricular connections, vocabulary

California students and teachers begin the new school year with a new set of academic standards. The Common Core State Standards are intended to better prepare students for college or careers by creating connections between grades and subject areas. The cross-curricular literacy and common vocabulary -- between English and social studies and math and science -- that common core requires are expected to help students learn to read and understand complex texts.
