Data support link between metformin, prostate cancer survival

Metformin use was associated with a 24% lower risk of all-cause mortality during the first six months of treatment in men with diabetes and prostate cancer compared with nonusers, a study indicated. Researchers also found that each additional six months of metformin treatment was tied to 44% lower odds of prostate cancer-specific mortality and a 20% decreased risk of all-cause mortality. The results appear in the Journal of Clinical Oncology.
