President Barack Obama likes to pay visits to American companies, but its unclear whether firms benefit from presidential meet-and-greets. An analysis of stock-market performance shows that public companies typically get a 3% bump in value on the day before a presidential visit, although there's plenty of variation between companies. "Larger companies were slightly more likely to see the one-day-before bump, but please do not gamble your retirement money on this," write Philip Bump and Rebecca Greenfield.
