Magazines are struggling in print, growing in digital

Subscriptions and newsstand sales are faltering, but digital editions are picking up steam for magazines, according to the Alliance for Audited Media. Mirroring the 2012 trend, total subscriptions declined roughly 1% and newsstand sales declined 10% in the first half of 2013. Digital editions, however, nearly doubled compared with 2012, climbing from 5.4 million to 10.2 million units sold, representing 3.3% of total circulation.
