McDonald's franchisees air concerns of higher costs

McDonald's has been raising rents, requiring costly remodels and shifting more costs to operators, making it tougher to make a profit, franchisees say. Remodeling a McDonald's costs about $800,000, more than twice as much as it costs to redo a Burger King or Wendy's, according to franchisee Kathryn Slater-Carter, one of several operators who have joined forces to find ways to convince the company to cut costs.
