More than 1M youths are sent to EDs yearly for serious sports injuries

A Safe Kids Worldwide survey revealed that severe sports-related injuries account for more than 1.35 million pediatric emergency department visits in the U.S. every year. For 6- to 19-year-olds, the most common sports injuries are sprains and strains, fractures, contusions and abrasions, and concussions. One in 5 children who visit the emergency room for an injury is there because of a sports injury, noted Safe Kids CEO and president Kate Carr.
