Obama to call for overhaul of home-mortgage finance

President Barack Obama will propose changes to the way home mortgages are financed that would limit the U.S. government's role to providing some sort of guarantee or insurance to protect lenders against losses, senior administration officials said. He will recommend the elimination of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac over time, they said, and mortgages would be securitized and sold to investors.
