Study: Mail outreach increases CRC screening

Mailing a fecal immunochemical test and then following it up with a phone call is an effective way to increase colorectal cancer screening in underserved populations, University of San Diego researchers said. The study found sending an FIT in the mail tripled rates of screening, compared with standard practice, while colonoscopy outreach doubled screenings. "Almost everyone would agree that the most effective form of colorectal cancer screening is the one that a person will adhere to," said Dr. William Chey, who is co-editor-in-chief of The American Journal of Gastroenterology.
