Study predicts pattern of infantile hemangioma growth on lips

Focal infantile hemangiomas of the lip are most likely to occur on the lower lip, cutaneous segmental lesions are most likely to occur on the mandibular segment and may involve the airway, and the vermiliocutaneous junction involvement is most likely with anatomical distortions, according to a retrospective study. Segmental mandibular IHs are more likely to involve scarring. The findings can help surgeons plan treatment for children with lip IHs, the researchers said.
