Study suggests DTC ads may result in inappropriate treatment

Direct-to-consumer advertising for cholesterol-lowering statin drugs might not be resonating with those who most need treatment. In a study published in the Journal of General Internal Medicine, researchers found that adults who had seen statin ads were 16% to 20% more likely to get a diagnosis of high cholesterol and 16% to 22% more likely to be treated with a statin than adults who had not seen ads.
