U.S. trade deficit narrows sharply

A surge in exports accompanied by a decline in imports narrowed the U.S. trade deficit in June. The gap thinned 22.4% to $34.2 billion, the smallest total in more than 3½ years. Economists said the unexpected figure suggests second-quarter gross domestic product will be revised upward.
