Probe finds questionable prescribing, dispensing under Part D

Medicare paid about $32 million in 2012 on questionable claims for HIV drugs, an HHS Office of Inspector General investigation found. More than half of the 1,578 beneficiaries with questionable claims had no HIV diagnosis, no records of drug-monitoring tests and no evidence they had obtained medical services from prescribers, the OIG found. Two Miami pharmacies collected more than $350,000 for dispensing drugs to 321 of these beneficiaries.
