The Washington Times called in an editorial for the White House to sidestep Congress and make Dr. Andrew von Eschenbach FDA commissioner through a recess appointment. The newspaper accused two senators who have placed a hold on a Senate floor vote of imposing a "ransom demand" that would open the agency "to political manipulation of the rankest sort."
