American Airlines flight attendants under scrutiny

After an American Airlines flight made an emergency landing in Los Angeles when passengers smelled smoke in the cabin of the Boeing 757, the flight attendants who deployed the evacuation slides are under scrutiny. The pilot usually gives the order to deploy the slides, but media reports say that in this instance the flight attendants acted on their own. Evacuation slides are deployed only in serious emergencies because passengers can get injured using them.
