European regulators approve Delta-Northwest deal

European regulators have cleared the merger of Delta Air Lines and Northwest Airlines. They noted that the merger will not "not significantly impede effective competition in the European Economic Area or any substantial part of it." The DOJ and Northwest shareholders must still approve the transaction. Meanwhile, Delta Air Lines plans to issue 15% of its equity to employees of the combined carrier resulting from its proposed merger with Northwest Airlines, according to a Wednesday regulatory filing.
