Federal guidelines make school closings for flu a "last resort"

The government today issued new guidance ahead of an expected resurgence this fall of the H1N1 flu, urging that schools should only close if large numbers of students have swine flu. The CDC and Education Department also have established a monitoring system to track school closures. It has not been decided whether schools will serve as clinics for mass vaccinations.
