Illinois businesses speak out against proposed plastic-bag ban

Owners of restaurants and retail businesses in Highland Park, Ill., spoke against a proposed ban on plastic-foam packaging and single-use plastic bags at a public meeting this week, saying the ban would cause a hardship on their businesses. One restaurant owner said alternative packaging would cost three times more than current choices, but a supporter of the proposal said eco-friendly packaging is safer for children and that health-influenced bans eventually overcome economic fears.
