Research links colic to bacterium, gut inflammation

Researchers studying colic in babies found those with the condition also harbored the bacterium Klebsiella and had gut inflammation in the intestines. They said they believed the bacterium causes an inflammatory reaction. The study suggested babies with colic could be susceptible to other gastrointestinal conditions later in life, such as irritable bowel syndrome or celiac disease.
